Barranquilla’s Carnival is Colombia’s most important folkloric and cultural festival, which has been celebrated since the late 18th century during the month of February. It is renowned for combining traditions from three different ethnicities that define the cultural diversity of the country: Indian, Spanish and African. In 2003, Carnival was declared by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival. During the month of February, the city of Barranquilla is full of both public and private cultural events and gatherings, where it is customary to attend with Carnival-themed clothing and accessories. Therefore, small clothing collections are designed each year by local fashion designers and brands. The S/S 16 Floral Carnival Collection is specially designed for local women of the city of Barranquilla to meet the need for an exclusive outfit that can be worn to Carnival-themed gatherings. The pattern designs allude to Caribbean culture and aesthetics, without being as striking as a costume’s textile designs. The collection is meant to be colorful and tropical, yet elegant and fashionable. Illustration technique: Vector illustration. Printing technique: Digital printing.
